When it comes to making meals, I usually find myself with two options: 1) I locate an amazing recipe and hoof it to the store to load up on the right ingredients;or 2) I look in the fridge and use whatever's available to whip something up (or try to, anyway--sometimes with varying results, ahem). But these savvy internet services give you third and fourth and fifth options--and they aregoodones.
The Very, Very Personalized Search Option:When you don't have the time (or the desire) to wade through cookbooks or flip through a gazillion online recipes, this new Google feature will be a godsend. You can narrow down your recipe search based on what ingredients you have in the kitchen, how long you want to spend prepping and cooking, and even how many calories you want the end result to be.It's cool because the site will actually scan recipes for embedded meta-data, so that the food ideas that pop up will include all of your search terms. It's not up and running yet, but should be rolling out soon.
__The Girl-On-A-Budget Option:__The always-amazingCool Mom Picksalerted me to this awesome service, calledFood on the Table. It's a free site that has you enter information such as your food preferences and favorite grocery stores at which you like to shop. Then it suggests recipes for you and--brilliantly--tells you what the ingredients cost, and will even point out which foods are on sale in your local store that week.
The Highly-Efficient Personal Assistant Option:For those who are more organizationally-challenged (no judgments here!),Relishwill email you recipes each week based on your preferences (veggie, low-calorie, cooking for one or two people, etc.).Each recipe is guaranteed to take less than 30 minutes, and the site also sends you specific grocery lists (so you don't end up buying too much and wasting anything--which should save you money, even though a subscription to Relish costs $7 a month).
