In the 11 years these two New Yorkers had known each other,Ashish learned that Archana loved elephants. So he wanted to involve them in the proposal.Getting an elephant for an engagement proved to be trickier than he thought.See how he worked it all out.
"Ashish knew that he wanted to incorporate elephants,my favorite animal,in his proposal, but he didn't know how to find any.So he started by calling zoos. They all gave him the same answer: No way;we can't do anything like that.'
I'm a wedding planner, and I coordinate a lot of Indian weddings that involve elephants [from MB: It's traditional for grooms to ride in on elephants in a processional called a baraat],so Ashish ended up going through my notes! He found out aboutComerford Zooin Connecticut. They were coming to do a kids' fair at the Meadowlands Sports Complex (where the New York Giants play) in New Jersey, which is a bit closer to our home,on January 16.I was set to leave for a three-month-long job in India just a few days after that, and Ashish wanted to make an honest lady out of me before I left,so it was perfect.
He planned to take me to a Lady Gaga Concert that night in Atlantic City, but the night before, she canceled! So he lied and said he had to run errands early in the morning in Jersey and asked me to come with.
We got to the Meadowlands at 8:30 a.m.and I was like,What the heck are we doing here?' and he kept saying,You'll see, you'll see.' There were no cars--just giant tractor-trailers.I thought we were meeting Lady Gaga!He left, came back, told me to close my eyes, and walked me out of the car. Then the foul smell hit me,and I started hearing all these random noises--birds chirping, monkeys squealing. He told me to open eyes.
I was on a ramp, facing downward, looking at these two guys with long mustaches! Then I turned around and there were two huge elephants with Ashish standing between them. One was wearing a "Will you marry me?" sign.Ashish got down on one knee, and the elephants kept whacking him with their trunks. There was fear and nervousness in his eyes. All I could do was laugh!
After I said yes,we got to ride on the elephants. We walked all around the complex because the fair wasn't starting yet.
Later,we went to Battery Park in Manhattan, where we used to meet for lunch, and had a picnic--with 20 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and all my favorite junk food!Luckily, the weather was so nice for January. Then, our parents came into the city to meet us and celebrate."
And guess what?Minnie, the elephant who wore the "Will you marry me?" sign, came to Archana and Ashish's wedding!Check out他们的建议的视频that has some snippets from their wedding. Then see photos from their amazing wedding in the next post!
