Good morning! While Barack Obama spent yesterdayglad-handing on Capitol Hill,Hillary Clinton was on the road again and her advisers had plenty of time to talk and talk and talk to reporters about everything from her finances to her private appeals to superdelegates. Those conversations, plus Cindy McCain's musings to Ann Curry and John McCain's disputed musings to Arianna Huffington are all after thejump.Join me!
Clinton's Cash FlowIn a story that might explain why the Clintonistas are talking to the media (besides their own egos,很明显),the Clinton campaign isreportedly strugglingto raise money and cutting back on so-called "frills." Unlike McCain's staff, who last summeraccepted pay cutsand even salary eliminations, there's not a word of that in these reports.
Clinton's Debt Dividing Obama SupportersUsually, after a good primary fight, the winning candidate helps the loser accept defeat by helping him or her retire campaign debt through appeals to supporters.Obama's supporters—having recently been told by the media about this standard practice—are up in arms.It doesn't help that Clinton's debts are really high or that, reportedly, much of it is to the hated Mark Penn.It helps negotiations between the two sides even less that Clinton's lead negotiator is Mark Penn's private-sector boss. This is going to get ugly.
Clinton Goes Courting,ThoughClinton is reportedlyasking uncommitted superdelegatesto commit privately even if they can't commit publicly to gauge whether she really can win the nomination on the strength of the superdelegate support. How is she only getting around to doing this now?Winning on their backs has been her strategy for more than a month.
McCain Disputes AriannaSince the Democrats have been too busy fighting each other,Huffington Postfounder decided to fight McCain for them.In a disclosure likely to further erode his support among his own base, she claimedon her site this week that he didn't vote for George Bush in 2000.He's denied it,butshe's got witnesses, including Bradley Whitford the lust-object of political women everywhere.
Cindy Wears the PantsIn a sit-down interview with NBC's Ann Curry yesterday,Cindy McCainvowed to neverrelease her personal tax returns. As the richer spouse in this particular marriage, she made her husband sign a prenup when they got married and has always filed separate tax returns,so the rest of us can sod off.I'm sure it's all very scandalous that she won't disclose, but I'm unaccountably proud that she made him sign the prenup. What's hers is hers!
Do you lust after Bradley Whitford,or just believe every single thing he says to this day?Are you amused that John McCain's wife has him on a short financial leash? And can you fathom a world in which Obama supporters pay off Clinton's campaign debts to herself and Mark Penn?
P.S.Do you have a question for John McCain?Glamour's Editor-in-Chief,Cindi Leive, will be asking him YOUR questions in an upcoming issue.Submit your questionheretoday!
