Zenyatta wins by a neck!So thrilling.

Speaking offemale victories, Zenyatta the undefeated racehorse won her 18th race this weekend. My family and I went to see her on Saturday at the Del Mar Racetrack (yup, the track featured inthis episodeofReal Housewives of O.C.!).Zenyatta's odds were so good, I put $10 down on her to win, and I only won $1.I had to stand in line mostly to get my original $10 back. And I thought I could use the money, since I'd just lost $5 on Call Me Honcho.

Gambling is only fun when it's your money, and no one else's livelihood is at stake.Betting is best when you're in control.I once let a guy sucker me into coughing up $75 for a March Madness pool.He won my money, of course.Another guy took me on a date to Del Mar, and I lost all my money.Trifecta what…?

I can see a boyfriend or husband fast-talking his woman into betting…sure…the exacta, sure, honey…do that…I believe in you.(Psst:don't touch him or he'll risk more money, studies show.) I think, if your man is a gambler—or you are—it's best to try to understand the game, so you know what kind of chances you or your man are taking. After all, not every horse is Zenyatta.

The payoff was so crappy, most people opted to keep their tickets as a souvenir, rather than cash out.

(Btw: the track is a cheap date idea—it's only about $10 to get in.Just don't bet on the ponies.)

Sidenote to all you horse lovers: a movie about Secretariat is coming out in October...

Are you a gambler? Is your man?Is he risk-averse or does he live on the edge? What about you?And will you go seeSecretariat?
