Last week I was afraid to get on the scale: My schedule was packed, and my lack of sleep was making me more ravenous than usual.I decided toput off my weekly weigh-in,but you all told me to stop making excuses and to get back on track.(Thanks guys--I needed the encouragement!) The problem is that then I went away for a long weekend of wedding festivities--and that's not exactly the best scenario for getting back on track with my shape up goals.I wasn't able to exercise or eat the way I wanted to,but I did my best to make good choices. Then this morning,I did the brave thing, and got on the scale.
And I lost two pounds since last week--yay!I think I'm still in shock--I'm not quite sure how that happened.I did have one rule I stuck to all weekend though:There will be times when I'll have no say over what I eat,but whenever I can,I will exercise control. It kept me balanced and allowed me to enjoy the foods I don't normally eat as part of my daily routine without feeling guilty. It also made me extra vigilant when I had the power to order anything for myself.
So while I had little say over what we were going to eat at the bachelorette party--it was pizza--I did order a big salad before the pizza. And while I had no idea what was going to be on the menu for the rehearsal dinner or the wedding reception,I navigated the hotel breakfast buffet every morning for the healthiest options like a mad woman on a mission.(And believe me,there weren't many weight-loss friendly options. The words "skim," "soy" and "whole grain" werenotpart of the vernacular in the small town where I was staying!) And in case you were wondering,I definitely had a piece of wedding cake--I figured that was the best time to indulge.
Then on the morning before parting,my friends and I went out for breakfast.I could have had the blueberry pancakes,(they lookedreallygood!) but I opted for a berry and yogurt parfait, with the granola on the side, and one pan-fried egg instead. And I was quite satisfied actually.
I also made sure to work out a couple of times.Luckily, the bachelorette activities included a hike in a gorge: It was slippery and I wasn't wearing the right shoes,so I fell a few times, but all in all,it was a fun way to break out in a sweat. My best friend and I also woke up extra early on the day of the wedding to go for a run.
