So,a new Koreanice cream baris purporting to cure your hangovers.Wait, what?
This is not your typical Good Humor bar. It's actually a grapefruit-flavored treat called Gyeondyo-bar,which translates to "hang in there." The name is meant to evoke "the hardships of employees who have to suffer a working day after heavy drinking,as well as to provide comfort to those who have to come to work early after frequent nights of drinking," according to a press release Reuters obtained from Withme FS,the convenience store chain behind the concoction.
The bar's alleged hangover-curing power comes from oriental raisin tree fruit juice,a popular ingredient in hangover remedies and one that's beenscientifically provento lessen the effects of alcohol on rats.
If this sounds like something you need desperately right now, you're kind of SOL.It came out in South Korea, which is apparently Asia's alcohol capital—according to Reuters, hangover cures generate $126 million in sales there every year—and doesn't look like it's going to be exported anytime soon.Fear not, though: South Korea is home to somehangover remedy recipesthat you can make yourself.
Sound too good to be true?Maybe, but it's definitely more fun than a glass of water and an Advil.
