Have you ever heard of ear candling?Jessica Simpson recently posted a video to her Twitter account where she's seen looking very uncomfortable with a lit "candle" in her ear.Have you ever tried these?
It's called ear candling and Jessica Simpson tried it this week--for the camera! The ancient folk-medicine practice is said to remove ear wax, but some supporters of the practice say it also removes toxins (not sure how, but we'll go with it), while also promoting ear, sinus and throat health--even preventing migraines.
(By the way, to see why Jess was sticking out her tongue,Beth has an interesting explanation here...)
Not sure if any of those claims are founded, but I'll tell you this: It looks kind ofuncomfortable: Inthis video, where Jess is seen alternately laughing and writhing in pan (or maybe not pain, but she seems really antsy) with a lit candle-like thing hanging out of her ear (how' it get there? It was a holiday gift from her hairstylist and BFF, Ken Paves, who also shot the video).
Sounds kind of interesting, doesn't it?But,health officials say tread cautiously.Ear candling has been linked with ear drum punctures and infections.Maybe talk to your doctor or an ear candling practitioner (yes, there is such a thing), before trying at home.
Have you tried ear candling?Would you?
P.S.Here'sPadma Lakshmi's breakfast pick(such a yummy idea!), and guessthe exercise that helps Alanis Morissette manager her depression...
