Last night,I went to a screening ofLittle Fockers. And while there aren't any former covert agents masquerading as retired florists in myfamily(that I know of!),I couldn't help but relate to some of the sillier moments of the film.We all have those wacky and hilarious family memories, right?
To lighten up our seasonal stress,I thought it'd be fun if we could each share a silly,LOL-worthy memory we have about our families and the holidays. It doesn't have to be a winter holiday—if you've got a particularly hilarious tale of July fourth hijinks,do tell!
I'll go first.A few years ago,my grandpa went scuba diving with friends early Thanksgiving morning. The loot he returned with included a very good-sized (and very alive) lobster. While the adults drooled at the idea of having a bit of lobster to go along with our turkey-day meal, one of my younger cousins really took to the creature. One thing to note: this cousin was a super sensitive kid (and is now a super sensitive teenager) and slightly prone to outbursts.他采用了龙虾的宠物;he'd sing to it,show it his toys and he even pretended he was taking it for a walk by dragging a dog leash on the ground beside it.My family had a pretty good chuckle about it until we realized the inevitable.
Once he named the lobster (Larry, natch),we all imagined the tears and tantrum that would follow after we placed the fellow in the hot pot. While my grandma sweetly reminded my cousin that some of the food we eat starts off as animals,he nodded and continued playing with Larry. And we all stood nervously as a large stockpot was put on the stove. But when the time came,it was my cousin who basically said,"Adios!" and then tossed his friend into the pot without a tear, whimper or protest! We were shocked and found ourselves doubled over, laughing with relief.
__Do you have a funny holiday story about your family to share?Maybe the oven broke while cooking a big meal and you ended up with a still raw turkey?Or your great aunt had a little too much eggnog and treated the whole family to some tipsy caroling? And do you think you'll seeLittle Fockersonce it opens in theaters next week?__
It's a family affair!
