The 2012 Super Bowl was relatively tame compared to years past--remember Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake's nipplegate incident of 2004?--but it wasn't a completely drama-free event. That's becauseM.I.A.flashed her middle finger while appearing onstage withMadonna在半场。
The British singer andNicki Minajwere featured during the Material Girl's performance of her new single,"Give Me All Your Luvin'" and, while doing the number in front of 110 million TV viewers,M.I.A.flipped the bird while singing: "I don't give a (expletive)." Madonna pulled out all the stops during her medley of songs, but it's likely that M.I.A.'s gesture is what will largely be remembered from the performance.
In the grand scheme of things, someone giving the finger really isn't that big of a deal.It wasn't nudity. She didn't drop the f-bomb 50 times....Things could have been a lot crazier. But,in my opinion,it's just sort of juvenile behavior.I think, for me,the peak of middle finger popularity was in about third grade. My friends and I would sit in the "way back" of our parent-chauffeured station wagons and give strangers the gesture.
In M.I.A.'s case last night,it was like: Here's a 36-year-old woman, who has a nearly 3-year-old child, giving the finger on TV?!?Um...OK.I'd just think that as a musician and artist who has the attention of a good part of the world she could have come up with something a little more creative to do if she wanted to get the spotlight.
But I want to know what YOU think:
And what were your general thoughts about the Super Bowl?Did you like the performances? How do you think Madonna's half-time show was otherwise?Which commercials were your faves?Let's chit chat about it below.(And feel free to just write: Go Giants!)
