At last night's *Glamour's*2008 Women of the Year awards,I couldn't help notice that a number of theawe-inspiring awardees(um,hello Hillary Clinton,Tyra Banks, and Jane Goodall) and equally impressive presenters wore their hair tightly pulled back into strict buns or super-sleek ponytails. The evening's mini-trend made me wonder
How many of you (long and medium-haired) ladies pull your hair back in a simple do for serious events—interviews, meeting the parents, work presentations, somber family affairs, etc etc?
(I have to admit,I often swoop my hair up into a quick ponytail when I need to concentrate on something major: something about having my hair off my shoulders and up in a fuss-free ponytail makes it easier to focus on more important stuff.)
Anyway, back to last night's serious hairstyles: Jane Goodall and Debra Messing, who introduced the renowned primatologist, both sported sleek, simple dos.(As guests saw in Goodall's video,a center-part,low pony has been her signature style since age 26.)
…as did Chanel CEO Maureen Chiquet (ok,ok,so her pixie-cut gives her a perma-updo) and Kate Bosworth had a super-tight bun.
Natalie Portman wore hers down,in a formal-looking,straight curtain of hair while US volleyball champs Misty May-Treanor and Kerry Walsh showed off their long locks.(Which must have been a welcome change from the super-tight dos that they have to wear on the sand!)
So what about you?
