提拉银行is known for shaking things up onAmerica's Next Top Model.Over the course of 23ANTMcycles,Banks and a rotating panel of judges have made steps to open the catwalk to modelsdiverse in size, height, race, gender identity, and sexual identity. There's still alongway for the industry to go in terms of representative inclusion, but Banks is coming back to help open up one more door.As the 24th cycle of the show approaches,Banks announced on Saturday that she was going to eliminate the age limit for contestants.

The cutoff, which had previously been 27 (yep,27),was feeling particularly out of touch, especially as we're beginning to see older models deservedly land high-profile campaigns and editorial work.Julia Roberts, who in the normal world is middle aged,is the face of Lancome at 49.In 2014,Helen Mirren, then 69,was the new face of L'Oréal Paris.Lauren Hutton,73,is still working the catwalk during 威廉希尔备用网址fashion month and appearing in campaigns for Bottega Veneta.Daphne Selfe,88,has been photographed for the pages ofVogueand appeared in campaigns for designers like Dolce & Gabbana.

(Again, the former age limit onANTMwas 27.)

But despite these examples, ageism—along with other diversity "-isms"—continues to bea real problem in the modeling and entertainment worlds.(Olivia Wilde—whojustturned 33,by the way—was told she was"too old"to play Leonardo DiCaprio's wife inWolf of Wall Street.) Which is why calling out those biases à la Amy Schumer's"Last F*ckable Day"and celebrating accomplished women of all ages,as we saw with the2017 Pirelli Calendar,is so important.

Banks made the announcement in a video post onTwitter."There have been 23 cycles ofAmerica's Next Top Model, and every single cycle we say you have to be 27 years old or younger," she says."You know what I hear all the time?‘Tyra, come on!Why have an age limit?' So,you know what?I'm taking that age limit off.You want to audition forAmerica's Next Top Model?I don't care how old you are, honey."

Banks goes on to say the only thing aspiring contestants need to be able to do is "know how to smize and be open to learning how to work the runway like a supermodel." And we're pretty sure age has nothing to do with any of that.
