Did you watch last night's* The Bachelorette* finale?(For more on that, check outJoanna's live commentsof the episode.) It got me thinking about all the dating shows out there right now. There's even a new one airing tonight on Fox called...
...More to Love.(Um,can we say, worst title ever?!) The premise: A 300-pound nice guy gets his pick of pretty plus-sized women.I sorta hate that the show's concept is based around their weight, but on the other hand,I do appreciate that they're trying to diversify dating contestants a little,as opposed to say,the skinny minnies ofThe Bachelor.I guess I'll have to tune in to form a full opinion.
The ladies ofMore to LoveAnd then there'sDating in the Darkon ABC.Joanna briefly mentioned italready, but the show's about sending people on dates...in the dark.(Guess the title gave it away, huh?) The point being that you end up basing your choice on personality, not looks.
These programs may be fun and all,but I sort of miss the good old days ofSingled Outon MTV with goofy girl Jenny McCarthy (pre-Jim Carrey) and a guy dressed up as Cupid in his tighty-whities.It was fun, silly and just a little bit raunchy. And instead of having five,25 or 30 guys to choose from like most shows, contestants onSingled Outgot50!
Yes,on my list of dating guilty pleasures,Singled Outis pretty much near the top, followed maybe byElimidate(hot tub scenes!),Nexton MTV (cheesy scripted puns!),andRock of Loveon VH1 (Brett Michaels' cowboy hat!).Oh,and don't forgetRock of Love's brother from another mother,Flava Flav'sFlavor of Love.
They're just so good—or perhaps better put,so awesomely bad, they're good.
What's your favorite dating show of all time? Are you aBachelorfanatic?Do you get all nostalgic forSingled Outlike I do?And will you check out the newest one,More to Love, tonight? Please share!
