So here we are on week four of our summer book picks and I have been pondering long and hard on what book I should recommend next for your reading pleasure...
We've done a mystery,a beachy chick-lit,a coming of age novel--now I think it's time for a little non-fiction to throw into the mix, because there' nothing like a good biography, packed with the rich, the famous, and the flawed.
When it comes to my favorite biographies I have to give props to two:Edie: American Girlby Jean Stein and George Plimpton, which describes the glamorous and tragic life of '60s society girl,Andy Warhol muse, and famous williamhill388beauty Edie Sedgwick (imagine combining the Olsen sisters with Lindsay Lohan and Serena van der Woodsen). The second isEverybody Was So Young: Gerald and Sara Murphy: A Lost Generation Love Storyby Amanda Vaill. If you loveThe Great Gatsby, then these real-life jetsetting characters from the Jazz Age will have you entranced.
So for this week's true life drama:
What To Expect
Although much has been written about the magical, yet tragic,Kennedy family, there still always seems to be one more story yet to be untold.Set during the post-Camelot years, after President Kennedy's assassination, the book chronicles the secret love affair between former First Lady (and 威廉希尔备用网址fashion icon) Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy, arguably two of the most famous and influential people of their time.
Why You'll Like It
Secret liasons, famous names, hotel room trysts--it might not be your father's American history book, but it's a riveting read nonetheless.Heymann combines reporting with extensive research to expose a passionate relationship that could have changed history if it had ever been revealed. The story also has a strong Mad Men vibe--risque yet sophisticated, with lots of cocktails.
So what's your favorite biography? Is there a book about a famous or historical figure that surprised or inspired you?And will there ever be another Jackie O?
Have a great weekend in the sun (wearing sun block of course),and let me know how you're enjoying this summer's book picks!
